What is Sumac?
Sumac is any of about 35 species of flowering plants in genus Rhus and is a relation of the cashew family. The dried fruits from some of these species are ground to produce a tangy, crimson spice popular in many countries. Its tart flavour comes from the high amounts of malic acid.
Where does Sumac Come From?
Sumac is grown subtropical and temperate regions, all over the world. This includes East Asia, Africa and North America. Different species of the plant are grown on different continents.
